Asphalt Pavement Appearance

Your new pavement will vary in appearance due to the physical makeup of the asphalt mixture and also the paving techniques for each individual project.

Your asphalt mixture is made up of different sized stones, sand, asphalt binder, etc.

Your pavement may also have a more rocky appearance on seams and areas that have been raked or compacted by hand tools.

Water Drainage

Sometimes, especially when conditions do not allow for optimal drainage, pavement may have areas that are holding water.

If an area of concern develops we will check the area to determine if a drainage repair is possible.

The general rule of thumb is if the water in the low area will cover at least a quarter we will give the owner the option of reheat patching to try to eliminate the puddle.

Please note that when less than 1% slope exists perfect drainage is not always possible.

Asphalt Paving Back Filling

The owner is responsible for back filling his new pavement edges with top soil and seed to protect them from premature cracking.

It is also best not to park on or near the edges, or drive off the edges which can also cause premature edge cracking.

There is no warranty against edge failure if these steps are not followed.

Asphalt Paving Driveway Cracking

Sometimes a driveway will develop one or more cracks during your warranty period which are usually caused by something underground (ie:tree roots, wires, pipes, culverts, etc).

Other common causes for a crack during your warranty period could be expansion cracking or a cold seam. If you get a crack in your pavement, call us and we will come out to inspect the crack.

If the crack is a “hairline crack” nothing is needed or recommended for that crack. Its normal to see a few “hairline cracks” from expansion. If a crack develops in the pavement and becomes 1/4” wide by 1/4” deep minimum, we will perform the necessary maintenance on these areas during your warranty period.

No maintenance is usually recommended for cracks smaller than the 1/4” by 1/4”.

Asphalt Driveway Settling

If an area settles or sinks a minimum of 1/4”, we will repair at no charge during your warranty period.

Asphalt Driveway Tires and Kickstands

Vehicles parked in the same spot for extended periods of time may leave small indents that can be avoided by placing something under the tire to disperse the weight.

Bike kickstands should be avoided on your asphalt pavement on hot days or will sink in and cause damage which can be repaired but is not covered under your warranty.

Asphalt Driveway Fluids and Spills

While it is best to avoid any fluid leaks on your pavement, if you catch it right away a problem can oftentimes be avoided.

Use something to absorb as much of the fluid as possible and then wash the area with soap and water, being careful not to spread the fluid over the driveway.

Gasoline can quickly deteriorate your new pavement and should be avoided from contact with your asphalt. Fluid leak repairs are not covered under your warranty.

Seal Coating

Different projects may have different recommendations depending on each homeowner preference and project.

You may call your sales rep at United Paving Company for guidance to fit your project.
